Passionate About Helping Others

The Pitchford's started Independent College Counseling in 2006 after recognizing the need for this service in their community. They possess a unique skill set that compliments one another and benefits the families they have served. Few college counselors, in this growing service industry, can match their credentials and experience

Melanie  retired from her position as an executive Human Resource Director and leads the daily operations of Independent College Counseling. In her prior career, she over saw the recruitment and retention efforts of the entire work force of a multi-state banking corporation. Her areas of expertise include: talent identification and acquisition, carer counseling, resume and essay preparation, interview skills and counseling for the college search and selection process. Melanie is one of the most experienced college counselors in the country in navigating and completing the many online college applications portals. Melanie holds a bachelors degree in Psychology/Sociology  from Oklahoma State University and is an active member of the National  Association of College Admission Counselors and it's state affiliate the Texas Association of College Admission Counselors.

Don has spent his entire career in college admissions and currently serves as a higher education consultant. He began his career in college admissions at Oklahoma State  while working on his doctorate. He progressed through the admissions profession and was eventually named the Director of Student Recruitment and Admissions at Oklahoma State. Don spends much time each year on college campuses across the nation assisting colleges  with college admission initiatives. He is a recognized and respected speaker at numerous higher education focused professional events each year. His contacts , relationships and in-depth knowledge about the nuances of the college admission process has benefited many families we serve.

The Pitchford's currently reside  outside of Austin, Texas in the hill country with their 2 daughters (both TCU students...Go Frogs!)  and their two teenage sons.
